Oslo - The Fjord City Expo

Oslo - The Fjord City Expo will be presented in the Today Art Museum in Beijing from November 27th to December 9th 2006. Norway's 1000 year old capital city, Oslo, strategically situated at the inner reach of the beautiful Oslo fjord and sheltered by forestdressed hills, has embarked on an ambitious program of urban redevelopment, involving the transformation of Oslo’s attractive waterfront.

Norway’s capital city has a strong profile as an environmentally friendly city – “the blue and the green and the city in between”. In 2003 Oslo was a winner of the European Sustainable City Award.

The Fjord City Plan is an overall strategy towards urban development of the waterfront. It includes urban renewal of a string of waterfront properties in the heart of Oslo. The aim is to create better connections between the City Center and the fjord, providing unique and modern physical surroundings for living, work and leisure. Areas will be opened to the sea for future development including housing, recreation, culture and business.

Activities in the Oslo- The Fjord City Expo, such as seminars and other events, will be an important arena for strengthening ties and establishing new contacts - both for the City of Oslo and also for other institutions and businesses that want to use the expo as a meeting arena. A range of seminars on urban development, urban environmental concerns, education and research are scheduled during the exhibition period in Beijing. The expo is open to the public.
