Consul General

The Consulate General in Guangzhou aims at furthering Norwegian business and other interests in South China – and to act as a modern entry point to Norway for Chinese who take an interest in Norway.

Our activities fall in four main categories. We assist Norwegian business interests and promote Sino-Norwegian industrial partnerships, in particular within the IT, energy and maritime sectors. We promote Norwegian seafood and the unique travel experiences Norway offers. Through public diplomacy efforts we want to leave behind a modern footprint of Norway. Through analysis and reporting we try to comprehend and predict the development of modern China. And last but not least, we assist Norwegian citizens and run an effective and service-minded visa section which issues visas to Norway and Sweden.

While Norway and China have enjoyed diplomatic relations for almost 60 years, the Consulate General in Guangzhou is a newcomer, established in 2008. We cover Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Hainan, a dynamic area with more than 220 million inhabitants and a considerable share of China’s economic, social and cultural capital.

The Consulate General in Guangzhou works closely with our colleagues and partners in Beijing and Shanghai – to realise the potential in an all-China approach.

More than ever before, foreign policy is made not by governments alone. Business, individuals and civil society are ever more important actors, sometimes in concert with public entities. If you see a potential in South China and want to engage with us, do not hesitate to get in touch.

The greatest opportunities in South China are still ahead of us.
