Bilateral Shipping Agreement

The Agreement on Maritime Transport between Norway and China was signed in Shanghai in December 2003. The Norwegian shipping industry is heavily involved in China , and the agreement   ensures better access to the Chinese markets and more preferable deals for Norwegian companies.

The Shipping Agreement is rather similar to the EU-China Agreement signed in 2002, but the Chinese-Norwegian agreement is slightly broader in scope – including among other issues regulations for training cadets and hiring seafarers. The bilateral agreement will make it possible for the cadets of a maritime training academy in China to serve as seafarers in Norwegian ships, receive international training on board and acquire certificates of international standards.
