Consul General
Mr. Fred H. Nomme has a broad career as a Norwegian Diplomat, having served as ambassador of Norway to Malaysia, Brunei, Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Cameroon.
Mr.Nomme was born in Sandefjord, Norway, in 1946 - and carries the middle name of Harald having been born on the same day as Prince Harald, currently the King of Norway. He is educated in Business Administration from universities in San Francisco and Minneapolis, and his diplomatic career includes postings in Saudi Arabia, Morocco, France and the USA in addition to the the countries mentioned above.
Mr. Nomme has also held important positions outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has worked at both the University of Bergen and the University of Oslo, dealing with student welfare. He worked for the Norwegian Shipowners Association at the time of the introduction of the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS) in 1987. He then went on to become Private Secretary to H.R.H. Crown Princess Sonja for three years. Between 1991 and 1994 he worked for the Lillehammer Olympic Organizing Committee, responsible for international relations, VIP-services and protocol. He was Chief of Protocol for the Games in 1994.
Consul General Fred H. Nomme came to Shanghai in September 2005 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo, where he had been Senior Adviser in the Regional Department, dealing with policy questions regarding the African continent.
Mr. Nomme is married to French citizen, Evelyne Tissier Nomme. They have two daughters, both living in the UK.
