The Consul General holds a Master of Law from the University of Oslo (1974) and spent four years in the private sector (media) before his admission to the Diplomatic Training School in 1978. His specialization is International Law.
The Consul General has a long and varied career in Norwegian diplomacy, having served as the Norwegian ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Morocco and Mauritania. At the beginning of his career, he held posts in Copenhagen, Rabat, New York and Geneva. From 1989 to 1992 he served as the Spokesman for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and has held several posts in The Law Department and in the Administrative Department, where he was Deputy Director General from 1999 to 2003.
The Consul General maintains a lifelong interest in Asian culture and Asian affairs, and actively pursued opportunities to return to the region after the end of his tenure as the Norwegian ambassador to Indonesia. Arriving to Shanghai from his previous post as Norwegian ambassador to Morocco, he is pleased with the chance to work in one of Asia’s biggest, most dynamic cities.
In addition to Shanghai, the Consul General is also responsible for Norwegian activities in the provinces Anhui, Jiangxi, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
