Do I need a Visa to go to Norway?
As a general rule, foreign nationals will need to apply for a visa before entering Norway. Some nationals are exempt from the visa requirement. Please see list from The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration. 

How can I apply for a Visa?
We are pleased to announce that you may now make an online application and book appointment if you want to apply for visa or residence permits. Please register your online application and book appointment at the Application Portal Norway: https://selfservice.udi.no After you have submitted the online application, booked your appointment and provided all the supporting documents, we will be pleased to welcome you to the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing to submit the necessary supporting documents. The Embassy requires personal appearance when submitting the application.

Can I transfer the visa fee to a bank account in Norway or China?
No. Applicants may pay the visa fee with visa/master card when making an online application or pay in cash when submitting supporting documents.

Must I deliver my application in person?
Yes. As a general rule all applicants should deliver their applications in person. Exceptions are applications from ADS tourists who will submitted by designated travel agency and applications from persons holding public passports, who is delivered by Foreign Affairs Office.

When can I apply?
You can submit the application at the Embassy’s visa section for the following opening hours: Monday-Friday: 09.00 – 11.30.

What documentation do I need to bring?
This depends on which type of permit you apply for. Please choose the correct permit here and then you will see which supporting documents you must bring to the Embassy when handing in your application.

How long will it take to process the application?
The processing times for visas are for the time being as following:

Short visit, business: 5 working days
Short visit to Family and friends 5 working days
ADS groups 15 days
All applications for temporary residence permits are handled by the Directorate of Immigration. You can find information about their processing times here. The Embassy will inform the applicant about the result.

If I’m inviting family/friends from China to visit me in Norway, can I as the reference in Norway call and get the result?
No. According to Norwegian Law only the applicant can get the result of the application and information about the application. A written letter of authorization from the applicant is needed for the reference to get information directly from the Embassy.

If rejected, can I appeal?
Yes, within three weeks of notification of the rejection. The appeal will be sent to UDI as the appellant body if the Embassy does not reverse its decision.
