Ningbo , Zhejiang Province, and Stavanger signed a friendship agreement in the summer of 2004. The agreement can be divided in two parts: In the general part the citiy goverments agree on visits, exchange of knowledge and cultural activities, and to support their business communities.

The commercial part is more specific, outlining 4 selected areas :

The business communities are in charge of this part of the agreement, and Nordic Industrial Park in Ningbo is given the key role to initiate and koordinate.

The North Sea has always been important to Stavanger, Norway’s fourth largest city located on the southwest coast of Norway. Fishing, boat building and oil – all are dependent on it. Stavanger was a canning and fishing city in the last century that has turned into the oil capital of Norway.
