Visit to the location of the Norwegian Legation in Beijing 1919-1927.
Thursday 4 January representatives from the Norwegian Embassy visited the locations of the first Norwegian official representation in Beijing.
Norway has been represented in China since the 1850s, in Guangzhou and later in Shanghai, but this was the first representatioin in Beijing. The Legation was established in Shi Jia Hutong in 1919. Johan Wilhelm Michelet was appointed Minister and head of the legation. The legation held office in Shi Jia Hutong until the capital was moved to Nanjing in 1927. Today parts of Shi Jia Hutong are still intact, and the entrance gate of the former Norwegian legation is still possible to visit.
