Green tide: Conference on energy efficiency and green hotels

Last updated: 14/04/2011 // Innovation Norway’s Energy Management Program (EMP) co-hosted the conference “Green Tide Forum of China Hotel Industry” together with China Hotel Association (CHA) at The Presidential Hotel the 22 March 2011.

The pre-announced focus of the conference was to “improve energy saving in the hotel industry in mainland China and to carry out advices from the State Council and Ministry of Commerce (…)”. Innovation Norway’s Energy Management Team (EMT) had been invited to contribute with an opening remark and a presentation within a one hour timeslot.

EMT’s Sven Karlsen gave the only opening remark on the conference, except CHA’s opening ceremony, and emphasised the Norwegian government’s friendly attitude towards Chinese progress on energy efficiency, in which the EMP may play an important role. Shortly after the opening remark, EMT’s Mr. Gao Peng gave a short presentation of EMP.

Following the 15 minute opening remark and introduction to EMP, Mr. Tor Olsen from AF Energi & Miljøteknikk AS used 45 minutes to present AF’s project experience from energy efficiency projects that are relevant to hotels. His presentation was composed of several case studies, and was very well received by the audience.

Around 220 people attended the conference, of which most were managers, chief engineers and high-level technical staff in hotels. EMT and AF were contacted by many of these, and several potential project opportunities were discussed.

The conference was organized together with an exhibition outside the conference hall, where many equipment suppliers and technical consultants related to energy efficiency exhibited their products and services. The positive synergy with the exhibition was one of many elements of success.
