Trends in Modern Shipbuilding - a Maritime Seminar
In collaboration with Innovation Norway in Shanghai, the Consulate General in Guangzhou is hosting a maritime seminar on modern shipbuilding in Guangzhou 30th of April 2009.
China and Norway have the 4th and 5th largest merchant fleets in the world respectively. The ship building industry in the PRD has been identified as central in Guangdong’s efforts to modernise its economy, and is in the process of being consolidated and modernised. As such, the Pearl River Delta is one of the most important maritime manufacturing bases in China.
Norway has long maritime traditions and has one of the largest and most comprehensive maritime clusters in the world. This strong position is a result of Norway’s maritime and offshore heritage combined with a strong focus on innovation and cooperation.
The maritime sector is a key focus area for the Consulate General in Guangzhou as Norwegian companies offer equipment, technology and services that are complementary to the Chinese ship building industry. "I am impressed by the maritime sector in Guangdong. At the same time, I am convinced that Norwegian technology can add to its competitive edge", says Consul General Tormod C. Endresen.
The aim of the seminar is to explore this potential by creating a platform for enhancing the collaboration between Norway and South China in the maritime sector. The seminar will include presentations by the shipbuilding industry, ship owners and equipment and service providers.
