Nor-Shipping, a biannual maritime exhibition in Oslo, Norway, is one of the leading meeting places for the world’s shipping industry. This year it will take place May 24-27.
Maritime Ties
At the pre-gathering in Guangzhou, Mr. Mao Liling of Havyard China and Mr. Kjetil Lund of Kongsberg Maritime China presented several aspects of the cooperation between Norway and China in ship design and ship building. “The maritime ties between Norway and China are an important part of our bilateral relations”, said Norwegian Consul General Tormod C. Endresen. “By way of example, Norwegian ship owners had 74 ships in order in Chinese yards last year, and more owners are now placing orders in China rather than in Japan and South Korea”.
Next Generation Shipping
Nor-Shipping 2011 has “Next Generation Shipping” as its main theme. This means focus on new technology - on the ships of tomorrow - and on the future leadership of the maritime industry. Maritime transport is a very energy effective way of moving large quantities of goods. Still the potential for reduced emissions to air and water is large. As a result of international regulatory changes and market demand, “green ships” are the ships of tomorrow. For the first time, the Nor-Shipping events also include a special segment about the offshore industry.
