The Lufeng Life Extension Project (LLEP)
The Lufeng 22-1 oil field has been jointly operated by Statoil (75 %) and Chinese National Offshore Oil Company CNOOC (25 %) since 1997. The field was scheduled to shut down in 2004, but continued producing until 2009, resulting in total production almost double the estimates.
The prolonged period of operation was the result of the Lufeng Life Extension Project carried out in 2004, based on technical solutions almost entirely developed in Norway.
Awarded the Statoil Chief Executive’s HSE prize for 2005
The process and success of the Lufeng Life Extension Project also won this field the Statoil’s CEO’s HSE prize for 2005 (health, safety and environment). The jury focused on how the project was carried out by a multicultural team with no recordable injuries or serious incidents when awarding this prize to Lufeng.
"Statoil’s and CNOOC’s success at Lufeng serves to illustrate the potential for co-operation between China and Norway in the offshore sector. My wish is that the Lufeng story becomes one that inspires more Sino-Norwegian industrial partnerships, within China and beyond", says Consul General Tormod C. Endresen, who attended the “mission completion”-ceremony along with representatives of CNOOC and Statoil leadership and many members of the Lufeng team.
Statoil is the largest oil company in Norway, has operations in 40 countries and about 31 000 employees. It is the world’s largest operator of deepwater fields and a world leader in the use of deepwater technology and carbon capture and storage.
