09/02/2011 // Modern architecture has for a long time been an area of co-operation between China and Norway. The interest goes both ways. Through an exhibition at the Norwegian National Museum – Architecture this month, the Norwegian audience will have a chance to experience some examples of architecture from the world’s most dynamic architectural scene – China.

From February 4 to April 10, an exhibition named M8 in China: Contemporary Chinese Architects is held at the Norwegian National Museum. The exhibition presents new trends in contemporary Chinese architecture and focuses on eight Chinese architectural firms. The founders of these firms are young architects. Most of them have studied abroad and have maintained their international networks. They are highly visible in international architecture competitions and deliver works that clearly differentiate themselves from projects that originate in the “architecture factories” of large government institutions.

The Norwegian foreign missions in China are actively engaged in enhancing exchanges in the field of architecture.  In 2010 a delegation of Chinese architecture professionals visited Norway. Several architecture exhibitions and seminars were also held around China highlighting links between nature and architecture.

The successful activities of 2010 will be followed up this year with new and exciting architecture activities, including seminars, lectures and exhibitions around China.
