Friendship and collaboration between Norway and China were one of the main purposes of Liu Dawei’s trip to Norway. To establish contact with fellow artists and create new cooperation projects are very important for continuing a good friendship. Liu Dawei was invited to Norway by the Norwegian Pictorial Artists (Norske billedkunstnere, NBK), the Norwegian committee of the International Association of Art (IAA), Norwegian art associations, and Norway-China Culture Exchange Center (NCCEC).
On his trip to Norway, Liu Dawei visited various sites and met different Norwegian artists. In addition to Oslo, he went to Mjøsa and Geiranger. Mjøsa is the largest lake in Norway and Geiranger is one of the most beautiful fjords of Norway, and both these scenic sites have been a source of artistic inspiration throughout generations. In addition to getting inspired by beautiful Norwegian nature and landscape, Liu Dawei met various colleagues, among others, Wang Guanghua and Per Ung.
2006 is the “Year of Ibsen”, and in Oslo Liu Dawei visited the Ibsen Museum. Henrik Ibsen was also an inspiration to Edward Munch, and at present the Munch Museum has an exhibition of Munch paintings inspired by Henrik Ibsen’s plays. Through his visit, Liu Dawei got to learn more about Norwegian artists and their work, and more importantly, he got the opportunity to establish new friendships. Artistic cooperation between Norway and China is growing, and we are looking forward to follow this development.
