Norwegian art in Hangzhou

10/06/2010 // Norwegian artist Pernille Leggat Ramfelt will from June 10-19 participate in a joint exhibition at Sanhe Museum in Hangzhou. The exhibition brings together talented artists with a variety of backgrounds, influences and approaches to making art.

Trace is a dynamic and evolving affiliation of artists first established while they were studying Fine Art Media at the Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2006. Since the first show in Woburn Studios in London, Trace artists have since organised shows and events in Frankfurt, Cardiff, Manchester, Liverpool and most recently as part of ReMap2 in Athens.

Henji at Sanhe Museum will represent the next leg of the Trace project and will bring together 32 members of the group. Ten of the artists will be visiting Hangzhou in advance to make new work specifically for the exhibition. These include; Pernille Leggat Ramfelt (Norway), Aishan Yu (China), Richard Bevan (U.K), Line Ellegaard  (Denmark), Catalina Niculescu (Romania), Andrew Ranville (U.S.A), Sarah Andrews (U.K), Maria Efstathiou (Greece), Alexandra Hughes (U.K) and Takuto Sawada (Japan).

A consideration of the site of the work has always been of great importance to all previous trace shows and the new works for Henji will continue this investigation. Not simply in terms of site-specific pieces, although these are a consistent element of trace shows, but rather the works will reflect the geographical, cultural and political location of the show alongside an innovative and experimental approach to the physical structures it inhabits. The new works created for Henji will include performance, painting, installation, drawing, film and sculpture all responding to the visit to China, Hangzhou and the International Art Space.
