The annual Norwegian International Film Festival opens 17 August 2011, it will last for 10 days. The film Festival centre of Norway is Haugesund, the gateway to fjords and mountains with the North Sea at its doorsteps. For ten days Haugesund will be filled with international filmmakers and producers.
The Norwegian International Film Festival will in 2011 be arranged for the 39th time. It is Norway’s largest film festival, and HRH Crown Prince Haakon is the Patron of the festival. Honorary President is the well known Norwegian author, actress and film director Liv Ullmann.
Films in the main programme are devoted to feature films for theatrical release. In the 2011 main programme we find a mix of international and norwegian titles such as “Cowboys & Aliens” with Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, “The Help” and “Headhunter” a film based on a novel of the famous Norwegian author Jo Nesbo.
The Amanda Film Award ceremony kicked off the Film Festival on Saturday 20 August. The Amanda Award was established to increase the quality and further the interest for Norwegian films. For 2011 “King of Devil’s island” won Best Norwegian Film, Best Actress went to Line Verndal and Henrik Rafaelsen won Best Actor.
