At the first day of the conference the Literary Translation Committee of FIT arranged a seminar on "Translating Ibsen" where translators from Spain, China, Russia and United Kingdom presented different interpretations of Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll' s House" and "An Enemy of the People". Mrs. Ellinor Kolstad who was one of the organisers of this seminar described it as a success, and she expressed hopes for the project to develop further.
Mrs. Kolstad together with Mrs. Ika Kaminka represented the Norwegian Association of Literary Translators (NALT), and they were very satisfied with this year's congress.
"The congress held a high standard, and the work of the literary translators were recognised and appreciated. This congress has been an important meeting-point where we have exchanged ideas with other translators", they said.
Both emphasised the lack of literary translators translating Norwegian literature into Chinese.
"It is getting better, but there is still a huge market for those who want to translate Norwegian literature into Chinese" , said Mrs. Kaminka who is also the Chair of NALT.
FIT has been held every third year since it was founded in 1953, but it is the first time it is hosted by an Asian country. The congress has attracted a lot of attention from both media and the public.
