After the first concert the Norwegian artists were already overwhelmed and said it was an extremely exciting experience, whereas the school children were happy, and inspired by the artist’s performance.
Supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Concert Norway sent three Norwegian bands to Shanghai this year; Baga Bo Pooh, Albatrosh and Nihao Shanghai. As a part of Shanghai International Arts Festival, the three Norwegian bands toured Shanghai’s schools, and were met by lots of enthusiasm and participation. The rather young audience took actively part in the concerts, singing entire songs in Norwegian.
On the 9th of November Baga Bo Pooh performed for the children at Yangdong primary school, a private school for migrant worker’s children in Shanghai. More than 600 students came and experienced the excellent performance by the Norwegian band. The Consul General Mr. Fred Nomme also visited the Yangdong primary school and enjoyed the concert with the students.
Since 2007 Norwegian bands have been visiting 88 middle and primary schools in Shanghai.
After three successful years with Sino – Norwegian Music Week, Concert Norway wants to expand this unique project in the future. According to Head of Foreign Section at Concert Norway, Tom Gravlie, they would like to include schools in Guangzhou and Beijing in the itinerary for next year.
