Steinar Raknes: Tangos, Ballads and More in China and Mongolia

Last updated: 09/09/2010 // The jazz group 'Tangos, Ballads and More' will tour Southern China from the 3rd to the 9th of October, visiting Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The Asia tour also includes performances at the Giant Steppes Jazz Festival 2010 in Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia from the 30th of September to the 2nd of October.

Tangos, Ballads and More is the Norwegian bass player Steinar Raknes´ new band. Strongly influenced by Latin American and Norwegian folk music, bass player Steinar Raknes has created new music and a new sound.

In addition to Raknes’ original music, the band performs tangos and bossa nova ballads merged with elements of Norwegian folk music. This is inspired jazz music, soft and melodic, powerful and energetic at the same time; jazz from the north and south, performed by the best of improvising musicians.

The lineup:

Steinar Raknes – double bass

John Pål Inderberg - baritone saxophone

Håkon Mjåset Johansen – drums

The musicians of the band have a long history: Raknes and Johansen played together in the band Urban Connection (Norwegian Grammy, Spellemannsprisen 2001), which successfully collaborated with the late Michael Brecker, in 2004. They also know eachother from their collaboration with Chick Corea and the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, of which Inderberg and Kvernberg are members. The band’s debut album is out now, and they have recently completed tours of Argentina and Norway.
