Trondheim soloists on tour in China

Last updated: 29/04/2010 // Trondheim soloists will be touring in China in May and June, performing music by Edvard Grieg and Tan Dun as well as traditional Scandinavian music. The tour includes a performance at the Shanghai Expo during Norway Day on the 28th of May.

The Trondheim soloists are a dynamic quality ensemble of musicians with links to the city of Trondheim. The orchestra was established in 1988 and has since toured extensively abroad in Europe, Asia, USA and Brazil. They last visited China during the Far-East tour of 2008, along with the world-renowned German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. Among the soloists for this tour are names such as Sissel Kyrkjebø and the folk musician Emilia Amper. The concerts have been characterized as remarkably spontaneous and intense.

The orchestra will perform during the official opening of Norway Day at the Expo Center Green Hall and during the main concert at the Expo Center Red Hall. They will perform the Tan Dun violin concert ”The Love” in collaboration with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, and with Secret Garden, Sissel Kyrkjebø and Eldbjørg Hemsing performing as soloists. Tan Dun is China’s most internationally acclaimed composer and will personally be conducting at the Expo concert. “The Love” has never been performed in China before. The Trondheim Soloists are also performing together with the Norwegian dance company Frikar and a group of Chinese wushu dancers.
