In the fallout from the bombing and youth camp shooting spree that killed 76 people in Norway on Friday, Dale Oen finished first in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 58.71 seconds on Monday and was awarded the gold medal.
After his win, as the camera caught him checking his time on the scoreboard, Dale Oen pointed to the Norwegian flag on his capand flexed his muscles to demonstrate the strength of the Norwegian people in tying times.
”The terrorist attacks that happened in Norway have shocked the whole world, and we are in grief. I extend my condolence to my compatriots. We need to stay together now in Norway and we here just need to try to do the best we can. My team gave me great support and I am happy with the result I have achieved”, Dale Oen later said at the press conference following the contest.
