Elephant in the Room Theatre, a theatre group led by Norwegian director Oda Fiskum and Italian director Fabrizio Massini, will present their first bilingual performance on the 12 and 13th of June in Beijing at the Penghao Theatre. The play entitled Facehook explores the effect of online social networking communities on modern society.
The experimental play delves into the topic of how online social networking communities such as Facebook, Twitter, and their Chinese equivalents Renren wang and Kaixin wang, are changing the way people communicate, see themselves, and to some extent even the way they think. Approaching the biggest craze of the new millennium the performance merges video projection, physical theatre, original writing by Oda Fiskum, and excerpts from Chinese avant-garde poet Yu Jian’s “File Zero”.
Facehook is a bilingual performance catering to both an English and a Chinese speaking audience. The cast and crew is an international mix of professionals, students, and amateurs from mainly China and Europe. The directors are both visiting scholars at the Central Academy of Drama.
