Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs visits ‘The Lady from the Sea’

Last updated: 18/10/2010 // Lisbeth Berg-Hansen ended her visit in Shanghai watching the play, ‘The Lady from the Sea’.

The play was a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s ‘The Lady from the Sea’. The director, Zhan Min, had turned the classical play into a colorful performance in the form of traditional Chinese Yue opera, and although written more than a hundred years ago, ‘The Lady from the Sea’, touches upon issues that are just as relevant in today’s world. The main theme of the play is choice and consequence.

After the play was finished, the Minister was invited up on the stage to meet the actors. She enjoyed the play very much, and thought it marked a nice end to her visit in China. The Minister was in Shanghai to participate at the Seafood and Fisheries Days at Expo, and the ‘The Lady from the Sea’ suited well with the theme of the Minister’s visit.

The play was set up at the Yi Fu stage in Shanghai, and is a part of the Ibsen Festival 2010.
