The Magic Flute in Beijing

The Magic Flute will be jointly presented by National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), The Norwegian National Opera and Opera Hong Kong. Artists from both China and overseas will unfold a classical magic journey for spectators.

Being the final piece of work in Mozart's life, The Magic Flute was also his favorite opera. With a plain and interesting form of myth play, the opera expresses Mozart's ideal of Utopia, where wisdom conquers blindness, light conquers darkness and goodness conquers wickedness. Meanwhile the opera also incorporates diversified musical and drama forms that were popular in Germany, Austria, Italy, France and Czech before the 18th century, displaying a rich and beautiful musical content.

Mozart composed a number of impressive arias for the opera, among which there is Pamina and Papageno's duet All Feel the Joys of Love. The tender melody of this duet shows Mozart talent. Papageno's aria The Birdcatcher Am I and the magnificent coloratura named Fire of Hatred are even more praised.

A cooperative production of National Centre for the Performing Arts,  The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet and Opera Hong Kong.
