herStay performs in Hong Kong
The dance ensemble herStay performs in Hong Kong in connection with an Ibsen-conference 19-21 November.
Ibsen conference
herStay will put on Monica Emilie Herstad´s performance Past is simulation - The ladies of the sea vs Nora, and other stories of the society in Hong Kong. This will be in connection with the international conference "Ibsen and the modern self" at Hong Kong Open University, and paralell to the New Vision Arts Festival in Hong Kong. Monica Emilie Herstad´s lecture on her work will be presented during the conference 21st of November.
Layers of melancholy
Herstad is connected to Centre for Ibsen Studies as a Independent Guest Research, with her project Past is simulation, since 2005. She contributes with this project to increase the understanding of layers of melancholy in the reading of Ibsen performance, still relevant in today´s society. She emphasizes the energy of anticipation, as a comprehensive device for directing a performance, in this case Past is simulation. A way to approach her work, is through the understanding of Elfriede Jelinek´s anarchistic way of relating to Ibsen´s female characters, and the rewriting of The lady from the sea by Susan Sontag.
The performance Past is simulation will be held twice November 19th - 21st in the On&On Theatre: http://www.onandon.org.hk
