Ane Lan: Eclectic Stage Performance in Chongqing

An eclectic concert performance by the name of SIRKEL, is set for the Chinese stage as Norwegian artist Ane Lan and his accompanying musicians/performers visit Chongqing in April.

The novel Video and Performance work of Lan and his group presents the Chinese audience with an unusual brew, exploring the human psyche while accompanied by strange vocal harmonies, acoustic strings, and images inspired by renaissance paintings.

The show consists mainly of a series of short performances, which interpret the domestic and personal condition of history while delving into the interior life of common men. These are seen as resting out of proportion with the universal dimension, and are thereby stuck in painful resignation. Mere silence and awkward presence are also purposely introduced to raise questions challenging the psychological basis of how we relate ourself to each other through communication technology.

Interaction with the audience is equally unusual as the performers are present on stage before the audience arrive. The performance will start only when the last person is seated. There will be no “clear” indications of when the piece is ending and the audience will have to chose when or if they want to applaud. The performers will not respond to applause, and will leave the stage area only after the last spectator has left.
