The architecture of tourism

Last updated: 06/09/2010 // The Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai and The Foundation for Design and Architecture in Norway will host the seminar The Architecture of Tourism; Authenticity, heritage and renewal at the Norwegian Expo pavilion on September 27th.

The seminar will be opened by Norwegian Minister of Culture, Anniken Huitfeldt. Thereafter, internationally renowned architects from Norway and China will present their perspectives on how architecture can function as a driving force for tourism.

The National Tourist Routes of Norway will serve as a background for the seminar.
In the course of recent years a number of small but noteworthy architectural projects along Norwegian roads have received international attention. These sites are part of the ongoing work of developing the attraction of National Tourist Routes in Norway. This project has emphasized creativity and innovation over cost efficiency, and served as a way for young architects to launch themselves as independent designers.

Among the speakers are Karl Otto Ellefsen, professor of architecture and Head of the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, as well as architects from Norwegian architecture firms Snøhetta and Jarmund/Vigsnæs. Also participating are the two Chinese architects Professor Chang Qing and Doctor Li Xiangning.
