Condolences from the Western Academy of Beijing

Last updated: 22/08/2011 // Director Geoffrey Andrews of the Western Academy of Beijing and Norwegian members of staff visited the Norwegian embassy in Beijing on Friday 19 August to show their condolences in relation to the tragic events on 22 July. The director presented the embassy with a card signed by teachers and students.

The card was made in collaboration by the art teachers and students of the school. Andrews expressed that the tragedy had made a deep impact and that they considered it important to let the students contribute somehow. The school has also been flying a Norwegian flag at half staff.

Within the diverse student body of the Western Academy of Beijing are approximately 20 Norwegian students, and the school has several Norwegian staff members. This contributed to the feeling of closeness to the tragedy that the school has experienced, but it was expressed during the meeting that an incident where such young people are harmed will always have a universal urgency and appeal.
