New Chinese-Nordic Cultural Centre established at Nanjing University

30/10/2009 // The new Chinese-Nordic Cultural Centre at Nanjing University was opened on Monday the 26th of October. Representatives from Government and Universities in all the Nordic countries were attending the ceremony, which was hosted by the centre director, Professor at Nanjing University and renowned Ibsen scholar He Cheng Zhou.

The opening of the centre received extensive attention from academic circles both within China and in the Nordic countries, enthusiasticly anticipating the centre to become an arena where Sino-Nordic cultural and academic exchange will blossom.

   

Performing Nordic and Chinese music at the opening ceremony


Following the opening of the centre, a colloquium on Chinese-Nordic relations was conducted at the University on Tuesday.

The main obejctives of the new cultural centre is ‘to promote cultural exchanges and research collaboration between China and Nordic countries, particularly Nanjing University and Nordic universities in the fields of humanities and social sciences. ‘
The center will put special emphasis on developing joint teaching programs in English and joint research projects

In December the centre will host a symposium to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Norwegian writer Knut Hamsun.
