The Solid Educational and Scientific Platform NTNU – SJTU

On Sunday 26 February 2017 the Norwegian Consul General hosted a delegation from NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) led by President Gunnar Bovim, Norway’s largest university, visiting China.

NTNU had brought scholars from a broad range of fields, mechanical engineering, energy, architecture and medicine to name a few, and their mission was to further develop the cooperation NTNU today has with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).

The event was well attended with participants also from Tongji University, East China Normal University and Fudan University. Additionally, a big group of alumni from both NTNU and SJTU came to celebrate their universities’ joint efforts and talk about their experiences of studying and living in Norway.

Framed in the historical Fairmont Peace Hotel and the Bund’s skyline, the NTNU delegation was welcomed to the city by their counterparts at SJTU, one of the key institutions they are visiting during their weeklong China tour. SJTU and NTNU already have extensive ongoing academic collaboration, a joint research center on sustainable energy and double master degrees, and both parties hope to increase the level of educational and scientific cooperation, and to build on their existing friendship.

The reception event at the Bund marked the starting point of the NTNU delegation’s visit to universities in Shanghai, Nanjing and Beijing. Consul General Øyvind Stokke said in his welcoming speech that the academic contacts and exchanges between NTNU and SJTU represent solid bonds in the bilateral relationship Norway – China.
