In the autumn 2008, the old Nordic Centre building was torn down. The construction of the new building – on the same site as the previous one – is set to start during the spring 2010. The funds for the new building was gathered through a first round of fundraising that successfully mounted EUR 1.000.000 from the Nordic Centre member universities, the five Nordic governments as well as Nordic companies based in China. The new building will be called the Nordic Centre and in addition to hosting the offices of the Nordic Centre it will also – like the old building – house Fudan University’s Foreign Affair Office.
In early 2009, a second round of fundraising was initiated. Its aim is to raise funds primarily from Nordic companies in the Shanghai region for the facilities and interior design of the Nordic Centre – either via financial support or product sponsorship.
