29/09/2006: The Norwegian research foundation FAFO represented by head of research Jon Pedersen, and scientist Kristin Dalen, in cooperation with the National Research Center for Science and Technology for Development (NRCSTD) launched on 27 September a report on living conditions in Western China. 18/10/2006: Norwegian palaeontologists have made a sensational discovery, currently drawing much international attention. A complete skeleton of a Pliosaurus, one of the largest-ever marine predators, has been discovered on Svalbard. These gigantic creatures, comparable in many respects to the Tyrannosaurus Rex, lived in the ocean 150 million years ago. Read more

The Polar Research Collaboration between China and Norway began in 1997, and  the Polar Research Institute of China is today cooperating with three Norwegian institutions: University of Tromsø, University of Oslo and the University Centre in Svalbard. Read more
