A SINCIERE focus on the Environment

15/12/2009 // On November 30 – December 1, a Sino-Norwegian workshop on Environmental Research Cooperation was held in Beijing.

The workshop gathered around 80 researchers, scientists and other interested from Norway and China for a two day long workshop. Ambassador Svein O. Sæther held an opening address at the workshop. “There is a growing understanding of the interlink ages between environment and society, between environmental protection and economic development and the fact that the critical factor for continued economic development in China is the protection and sustainable management of the natural resource base. Continued research is needed for a deeper understanding and for finding sustainable solutions.”

SINCIERE – Sino-Norwegian Centre for Interdisciplinary Environmental Research aims to act as a catalyst and mediator for cooperation between China and Norway within the field of environmental research. The Centre also seeks to facilitate interdisciplinary and policy relevant research and serve as a node for a broad network of associated institutions. Further the aim is to strengthen the institutional and scientific capacity in China to facilitate sustainable development. The Centre has potential for developing novel approaches linking natural and social sciences within the field if environmental research in a Chinese context.
