Sino-Norwegian research collaboration in agriculture

Over several years, the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO) has taken part in several research projects in China through agreements with Chinese partners.

For six years NIBIO has collaborated with the Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HAAS) in Harbin. This collaboration was celebrated at HAAS’ 60 years’ anniversary on June 6 this year. NIBIO was here presented as an important long term partner in the fields of food production and food safety, which are important fields of research for NIBIO. The two institutions have agreed on a further five-year long scientific collaboration.

Besides the collaboration with HAAS, NIBIO also collaborated in research concerning sustainable agriculture and food safety in Central China with the scientific community at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science (CAAS) in Beijing. The relations between NIBIO and CAAS has now evolved over more than 10 years.

Thus far, NIBIO and HAAS has exchanged their research through several workshops in China and Norway, through researcher exchanges and through collaborations with specific projects, common application to the EU and scientific publications. NIBIO has also benefited from being able to use the various facilities at HAAS for field studies. NIBIO is also collaborating on various projects with CAAS. Among other things, NIBIO’s role in Chinese agricultural research has allowed it to take part in such conferences as the Global Forum for Agricultural Science and Technology (GLAST)

NIBIO’s research projects in China has been financed by, among others, the Research Council of Norway, The Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture, and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing. NIBIO has also participated in projects financed by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology.
