Launch of report on living conditions in Western China
29/09/2006: The Norwegian research foundation FAFO represented by head of research Jon Pedersen, and scientist Kristin Dalen, in cooperation with the National Research Center for Science and Technology for Development (NRCSTD) launched on 27 September a report on living conditions in Western China. The launch took place in the Great Hall of People in Beijing.
The event was officially opened by Norway’s Minister of International Development, Erik Solheim, the Chinese Vice-minister on science and technology, Shang Yong, as well as the Vice-governor of Gansu province and the Vice-president of Nankai University. The report encompasses research on 44 000 households in 2772 small communities in 11 provinces of Western China. During the launch substantial statistical material and a socio-economic atlas of Western China were presented.
