Project: UN Appeal: Sichuan Earthquake Early Recovery
Purpose: 1. To prevent epidemics and environmental pollution from outbreak in earthquake hit areas by strengthening overall capacity for medical and contaminated debris and soils disposal and to prevent the release of environmental pollutants including the unintentional release of asbestos, POPs and mercury. 2. To improve the aseismatic system of hydropower projects in earthquake-prone areas of China through investigating and analysing damage caused by Wenchuan earthquake to various hydropower facilities, in preparation of modifications of seismic design code for hydropower projects.
