CG Guangzhou Newsletter October 2011

Dear all,

This time of year is always a busy time in China, so also at the Consulate General in Guangzhou. We are just about to start four weeks of “Northern Lights” - this year’s Norwegian cultural festival, comprising of several concerts and exhibitions, movie screenings, modern architecture and a salmon promotion month. A lot is going on - we can safely say that this is the most comprehensive Norwegian cultural event in Guangzhou ever. I you would like to join us, you find a link to the events and the programme enclosed in this newsletter.

On the business side of things, we are working with Shanghai and Beijing colleagues to identify the room for co-operation within the use of natural gas (LNG), in China, something we believe will be a very promising market in the years to come. First step is a seminar organised by our Shanghai colleagues 28 November. 

We were very happy to see some of you at the Nordic Barbeque Night in Guangzhou last Friday. The next social event we do – and one not to be missed - is the Christmas Dinner 10 December. Like previous years, we will try, with your help, to create some of that genuine Christmas feeling – save for the ice and snow. Hope to see you there!

	For the 6th time, the Nordic Documentary Film Festival – NORDOX is held in China. And this year, they are expanding to Shanghai and Guangzhou in addition to Beijing. NORDOX will present a range of new films and in addition show a select choice of their best screenings from the five successful years of the festival. Norwegian art made in China – a successful partnership
	Norwegian artists Arne Revheim and Finn Eirik Modahl’s sculpture ‘Javel’ will decorate the city of Kristiansand’s new theatre and concert hall. They chose a factory in Guangzhou to construct their 21 meters long work of art. Read more >

An office building that produces energy – is that possible?
	An alliance of companies, with the suitable name ‘Powerhouse’, is currently setting up Norway’s first energy positive commercial building. Located in Trondheim, it is also the world’s northernmost energy-positive office building; the project is both ground-breaking and challenging.Read more >

Ny sjømannsprest til Kina i desember 2011
	I slutten av november kjem sjømannspresten til Kina igjen. Annstein Lothe er ny sjømannsprest med ansvar for Kina fram til sommaren 2012. På denne turen til Kina kjem han til å vere i Kina frå 30. november til 16. desember.Read more >
