Winter is getting closer by the day. The cold month of December, the darkest month of the year is upon us.
Despair not! Remember, December is when the dark half of the year relinquishes to the light half. 

We at the Royal Norwegian Consulate in Shanghai are very happy to light up your day and tell you of some events in the Shanghai area. 
Recent events worth mentioning are a roof-topping ceremony at the Expo 2010 Norwegian pavilion, a large-scale seafood dinner at the Westin hotel, and a symposium to commemorate the 150 anniversary for the birth of the Nobel laureate in literature, Knut Hamsun.  DNV and Shanghai Maritime University signed a strategic partnership contract, and Marintec China, the largest maritime conference in Asia was held in Shanghai, having a substantial Norwegian presence.

The World Championship in handball for women is currently being arranged in the province of Jiangsu.   The Norwegian team has so far won all their games, and hopefully they will continue doing just that. 
Peer Gynt, the world famous play by Henrik Ibsen will be performed at the Oriental art centre in Shanghai the 24th and 25th later this month.  So for those of you who want to spend Christmas with Ibsen, here’s your chance.

	As a part of a Chinese tour the Norwegian group Secret Garden will perform in Shanghai at the Oriental Art Centre on the 31th of December. Read more >

Peer Gynt in Shanghai
	Chinese actors Lü Li Ping and Sun Hai Ying stars in this production of Ibsens masterpiece, touring all over China. The 24th and 25th of December the Shanghai audience will get the chance to enjoy this timeless piece of theatre history.Read more >

Norwegian Pavilion roof topping ceremony
	On the second of December, the Expo 2010 Norwegian Pavilion roof topping ceremony was successfully held, mixing both Norwegian and Chinese elements. After a Norwegian garland was hoisted, one of the beams in the pavilion was blessed Chinese style.Read more >

Marintec China 2009 – The largest Norwegian pavilion ever
	From the 1st till the 4th December the Marintec China will be held at Shanghai New International Expo Centre. This year will be the largest Norwegian pavilion ever. Read more >

Hamsun Symposium at Nanjing University
	Between the 4th and 6th of December, the newly established Chinese-Nordic Cultural centre at Nanjing University will host a symposium for the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Knut Hamsun.Read more >

Norwegian musicians team up with Chinese children
	From the 9th to the 13th of November, the Sino-Norwegian Music week was held in Shanghai for the third time. During the 5 day program 3 Norwegian bands visited 22 local schools, including a school for migrant worker’s children, in addition to a welfare center for children. Read more >

’The newly married couple’ made merry Shanghai
	The Shanghai Theatre Academy has in the last year very much focused on Norwegian plays. After the Ibsen play ‘Lady from the ocean’ was set up in June, ‘The Newly married couple’ by Norwegian author and playwriter Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson was put on stage the first half of December.Read more >

The first Annual Norwegian Seafood Dinner in Shanghai

Norway is one of the largest exporters of seafood, exporting to more than 150 nations worldwide. Every day 127 million meals of Norwegian seafood are eaten around the world. On the 12th of November a Seafood Dinner served exclusively with Norwegian Seafood was held at the Westin in Shanghai. It was the first annual Norwegian seafood dinner arranged by The Royal Norwegian Consulate General and the Norwegian Business Association. Read more >

Shanghai Maritime University and DNV signs strategic partnership
	28th of November, dean of Shanghai Maritime University Yu Shi Cheng and vice chairman of DNV Jørg Beiler signed a strategic partnership contract, and opened a Shanghai Maritime University and DNV international cooperation centre.Read more >
