CG Shanghai Newsletter July 2010Dear all Summertime is officially upon us, and June has been a month full of exciting happenings here in Shanghai. The Norwegian pavilion at the 2010 World Expo has received massive attention from the Chinese audience, and could recently celebrate 1 million visitors since the opening on May 1st this year. During “Visit Norway Week”, which lasted from June 21-25, the Norwegian Pavilion gave thousands of curious visitors a small taste of the very best of what Norway has to offer; everything from beautiful fiords and mountains, to traditional folk dance and world famous Norwegian salmon. Last Friday, an oil painting by the Chinese artist Sun Yao, entitled “Trace of Aurora” was unveiled at the Norwegian pavilion. The painting was inspired by a trip the artist made to the north of Norway, as part of the cooperation between the Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai, Norway at Expo and three Chinese artists. June has seen several Norwegian official visits to China. State Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Care Services, Robin Kåss, headed the Norwegian delegation to the Offshore Wind China 2010 conference in Shanghai. The following week, State Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Pål Julius Skogholt, took part in the maritime days at the Norwegian pavilion on June 16 – 20. Norwegian Vice Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Halvard Ingebrigstsen, visited Shanghai in connection with Innovation Norway’s “Visit Norway Week” on June 21-25. State secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ola Heggem, was in China from June 25th – July 3rd. His delegation had talks in Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Shanghai. There were also quite a few cultural happenings in June worth mentioning. Five Norwegian films were featured at the Shanghai international film festival, that was held on June 12-20, including “Twigson” (Knerten), based on Anne Cath. Vestly’s famous children’s book, and “Through a glass, darkly” (I et speil i en gåte), based a novel by Jostein Gaarder. In July it is still possible to experience ongoing events with Norwegian artists here in Shanghai. The exhibition “New Nordic Landscapes” is open from the 1st of June to the 15th of August, at the Nordic lighthouse in Shanghai. The themes are biodiversity in an urban context, interaction between infrastructure and landscape and process urbanism. Norwegian choir “Sirene” will perform outside of the Norwegian Expo pavilion on July 27th. As we move into July, many of you are probably preparing to take a well deserved summer vacation. Klubb Norge will not be hosting its monthly social gathering this month, but welcomes Norwegians in Shanghai to join them at new activities after the holliday: Hvis noen vil gjøre noe med sitt sosiale liv i Shanghai etter sommerferien - bli med i Klubb Norge!
