In the midst of the summer heat, the embassy is going through a relatively quiet period. However, preparations are already afoot for a busy autumn schedule, both on the political and cultural front.

Things have not been standing still in the summer months either. The Norwegian pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai is proud to announce its 1 millionth visitor. Also, Vice-minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Ola Heggem, recently concluded his first visit to China.

A new Sino-Norwegian alumni network is set to be launched in September and we urge all relevant current and former students to register as soon as possible.      

In addition, the Nordic Landscapes and Looking for Balance exhibitions are still open for viewing.

Visit by State Secretary Ola Heggem from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food
	Mr Heggem recently concluded his visit to China, which took place from the 27th of June to the 3rd of July. The delegation had talks in Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Shanghai. Read more >

Norway to give NOK 10 million in humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan
	“I am concerned about the situation in Kyrgyzstan. Large numbers of people in the south of the country have been caught up in the recent violence, resulting in urgent humanitarian needs. Norway stands ready to help those who are being affected by this difficult situation,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Read more >

Giant anchor lands in Hong Kong
	The anchor from the world’s largest ship, the ex Seawise Giant/Jahre Viking, ended its final journey in Hong Kong today. The legendary Seawise Giant/Jahre Viking measured more than 450 meters long from bow to stern and is considered the largest manmade moving object ever made. Read more >

On a jazz mission in China
	A kind of a missionary tour for jazz, yes, that is in many ways what we are doing! Jon Campbell laughingly says. He’s the tour manager of the Go West programme in China, a programme that sends Norwegian jazz musicians to Chinese cities that seldom or never are visited by artists. The project is initiated by The Norwegian Embassy in Beijing and the consulates in Shanghai and Guangzhou.Read more >

Norwegian design studio Yokoland wins award in Norway for exhibit in China
	Norwegian design studio Yokoland has won the gold award at the Visuelt 2010 for their installation project “Chinese Copy” at the NOTCH Festival 2009 in Beijing.Read more >

New exhibition by Norwegian artist A K Dolven to China
	The exhibition entitled Looking for Balance will have its official opening on the 5th of June and will be open from the 6th of June to the 11th of July. This exhibition is part of a continuing dialogue established at the Chinese art gallery Platform China concerning the role of the moving image in contemporary art. Read more >

New Nordic Landscapes
	Norway in collaboration with its Nordic neighbors present New Nordic Landscapes, an exhibition to be held between the 1st of June and 15th of August at the Nordic lighthouse in Shanghai. The themes are biodiversity in an urban context, interaction between infrastructure and landscape and process urbanism.Read more >

The Master Builder
	Henrik Ibsen’s The Master Builder is scheduled for performance at Peking University Hall on the 19th and 20th of August. Lead actors are Pu Cunxin and Tao Hong. 　 Read more >

	Bergen Woodwind Quintet is set to embark on their first China tour in October of this year. Read more >
