The decoration is conferred as a reward for outstanding service in the interest of Norway. The Ambassador of Norway to China, H.E. Mr. Svein Sæther, will decorate Mr. Wong in a ceremony in Hong Kong Thursday 4 December 2008.
Mr. Wong joined the Norwegian Consulate in Hong Kong April 1 1968, and has since then served eight Norwegian Consul Generals and two honorary Consuls. Throughout his career, Mr. Sidney Wong has been closely involved in the whole range of the Norwegian Consulate’s activities, advising Norwegian business interests, promoting Norwegian business, Norwegian seafood and Norwegian culture. Mr. Wong has also for many years served as the executive secretary of the Norwegian Chamber or Commerce in Hong Kong. Last but not least, Mr. Wong has throughout the years offered consular services to thousands of Norwegian sailors and other Norwegian citizens in Hong Kong and Macau. While Consul Generals have come and gone, Mr. Wong has remained, “Mr. Norway in Hong Kong”.
- Mr. Wong has devoted his career to work for Norway, and he has done so in an outstanding and competent manner. I am very glad to be able, through the decoration of Mr. Wong, to show our gratitude for his life long commitment to the Norwegian Consulate in Hong Kong, says Ambassador Sæther.
