Visit by Norwegian Minister of Oil and Energy Mr. Terje Riis-Johansen

The Norwegian Minister of Oil and Energy, Mr. Terje Riis-Johansen, visited China between the 26th of May and the 1st of June, during which time he visited World Expo Shanghai, and the cities of Hangzhou and Yantai.
In Shanghai, the minister attended Norway Day at World Expo on the 28th of May and met with representatives of Chinese oil companies and Norwegian businesses. In Hangzhou and Yantai he met with the provincial governments.
Norway is a significant global energy supplier and innovator. In terms of size, Norway is the world's 3rd largest exporter of natural gas; the 5th largest exporter of oil and the 6th largest producer of hydropower. In fact, hydropower constitutes 99% of Norwegian domestic energy supply. Norway is also a leading developer of carbon capture and storage technology and leading the field of offshore wind power. The world’s first floating windmill, the Hywind, is a recent innovation by the Norwegian state owned energy company Statoil. China is an important market for the Norwegian oil and gas industry, especially within the supply and services industry. China and Norway are also closely collaborating in the field of renewable energy.
