Embassy Newsletter December 2016
As 2016 is coming to a close, this last month has been an eventful one for the Embassy and anyone with interest in Sino-Norwegian relations. On December 19 Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende met with Premier Li Keqiang and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. A joint statement released the same day announced the full normalisation of political and diplomatic relations between Norway and China.
The Embassy has also been preparing to celebrate our favorite holiday Christmas with a festive reception for Norwegian students in Beijing and Chinese alumni returning from Norway. Chinese students learning Norwegian treated everyone to an impressive performance of a scene from Ibsen’s play A Doll’s House.
On the occasion of the 20-year jubilee of the Arctic Council the Embassy arranged an Arctic seminar on the topic “Polar Explorers of Today”. A large audience gathered to listen to three prominent polar experts talk about their travels in the polar areas, polar history and the issues of climate change in the Arctic.
The Embassy is now looking forwards to the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø in January and many other exciting events in Norway and China in the upcoming year. Stay tuned on our website and weibo for more information on upcoming events.
