Embassy Newsletter May 2016
In May the Embassy hosted the 2016 Sino-Norwegian Picture Book Seminar together with the Beijing Sunshine Media Corp in order to celebrate the publishing of Anna Fiske’s “Hello World” series in Chinese. Embassy representatives also gave a presentation of several Norwegian picture books to be published in Chinese. The event was well attended by publishers, translators, reading promoters, scholars and media.
On May 17 there was Klubb Norway’s celebration of the Norwegian Constitution Day in Beijing, gathering an enthusiastic local Norwegian community and their Chinese friends. The program included both concerts, speeches and a parade.
Also, on May 28 the 2nd Sino-Nordic Cup Football Tournament was held at Beijing Language and Culture University, jointly organised by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Global Times. The Royal Norwegian Embassy fielded a team consisting of both embassy staff, local Norwegian students and their friends, and made it to the sixth spot.
Finally, we have had several news from Oslo this month, telling us about Norway’s increased humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, the new Nordic fund for microfinance and Norway’s continued efforts to promote education during crises and conflicts, and the good news that Norway will be the Guest of Honour at the 2019 Frankfurt Book Fair.
