At this point in time China has a lot to celebrate, not least the unprecedented economic and social developments in the last 30 years which have enabled many Chinese to pursue and enjoy better lives. South China, where I am fortunate to serve, should take particular pride in the significant role it has played in contributing to the economic growth which has made these changes possible.
This week, we also celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations between the Peoples’ Republic of China and Norway. The co-operation and contacts between Norway and China have expanded immensely during the last decades. Our bilateral relationship currently covers all areas of human activity, and the majority of global issues confronting the world. It is a great privilege for me to be able to help develop this relationship further as Norway’s first Consul General in Guangzhou.
