Three musketeers and an iron horse

Last updated: 15/08/2011 // Setting out from Beijing on 1 August 2011, three young Norwegian men are embarking on an adventure which would have made Jack Kerouac jealous. During the following five months they will attempt to drive two CJ750 motorcycles from Beijing, China to Egersund, Norway.

The crew consists of Martin Bredeli (28), Kristian Pettersen (28) and Morten Espeland (26). Bredeli, an engineer with an extensive background from China initiated and designed the project, and paired up with two of his childhood friends; Pettersen, a nurse and Espeland, a photographer. Combining their skills the vigorous trio claims to be equipped to meet any challenges they may encounter head on.

The journey spans over approximately 12 000 kilometers, and the group is planning to drive an average of 200 kilometers a day, which will allow them to arrive in Norway during the first week of December 2011. They are however prepared to risk arriving a bit later if, as they themselves put it; “We meet some very interesting people on the way”

Understanding is indeed an important goal for the three modern musketeers and their somewhat untraditional horses. According to Bredli, they wish to gain a deeper understanding of what ordinary people in both Asia and Eastern Europe think about contemporary society and politics through the oldest means possible; by chatting to ordinary strangers they meet along the road.
