Information for applicants in Hong Kong and Macau

If you live in Hong Kong or Macau and would like to apply for a residence permit or Schengen visa to Norway please read the information below:

SCHENGEN VISAS (for visits up to 90 days)

Hong Kong and Macau citizens with a SAR or BNO passport can stay in Norway/Schengen without a visa up to 90 days in the course of any 180 day period.

Chinese and non-Chinese citizens with a valid residence permit in Hong Kong /Macau and a valid Hong Kong/Macau ID can apply for a Schengen visa to Norway at the Finnish Consulate General in Hong Kong.

If you do not belong to any of the categories above please contact the Norwegian Embassy in Beijing.

RESIDENCE PERMITS (more than 90 days)

Work, student and au-pair permits
If you belong to one of the following categories you can apply at the Norwegian Honorary Consulate in Hong Kong:

  • Hong Kong citizens
  • Macau citizens
  • Chinese citizens with a valid residence permit in Hong Kong or Macau during the last 6 months
  • Non-Chinese citizens with a valid resident permit in Hong Kong or Macau during the last 6 months

Other types of residence permits
If you are a Hong Kong /Macau citizen or a non-Chinese citizen (with a valid residence permit in Hong Kong/Macau during the last 6 months) you can apply for other types of residence permits (such as family reunion) at the Norwegian Visa Application Centre in Beijing or the Norwegian Consulate General in Guangzhou.

If you are a Chinese citizen you should apply at the Visa Application Centre in Beijing or Consulate General in China responsible for the province where your hukou is registered.
